Visian ICL (Intraocular Contact Lens) is the latest alternative to LASIK, SBK, and Epi-LASIK. The Staar Collamer Phakic Implant corrects 3 to 16 diopters of nearsightedness with an almost instant return of stable, sharp, clear vision. James Lewis, MD, of the Wills Eye Surgical Network and The Pennsylvania College of Optometry, narrates and performs this surgery. Originally the ICL was considered for patients not suitable for LASIK. It is now considered an alternative that may be better than LASIK for many. There are less halos, starbursts and glare and absolutely no dry eye, regression or corneal issues after surgery. Dr. Lewis uses the Zeiss Visante⢠(OCT: Optical Coherence Tomographer) to assess the patients both pre and post-operatively.
Here’s the third in our series of lighthearted videos that highlight advantages of the Visian ICL implantable lens over other vision correction technologies — in this case LASIK and eyeglasses (we bring them both to tears). The Visian ICL character is played by actress and Playboy model/radio host Andrea Lowell, who had the ICL implanted in both of her eyes. Nancy was a LASIK canidate despite her very high myopia, -10 D, because her cornea was thick enough and we used the Intralase which allowed us to create a thin flap and a Visx laser which removes less tissue. Most patiens above -10 D are better candidates for the Staar Visian (ICL) implant rather than LASIK
