Surface ablation or PRK is the safest procedure for laser vision correction, though recovery of vision takes a bit longer. Surface ablation does not require cutting a flap in the cornea, and is therefore the procedure of choice when the cornea is thin or irregular

The first half of my good Lasik surgery experience at Hoopes Vision–creating the flaps in each cornea. Originally this was done with a metal blade, nowadays they do this with a laser. They did the right eye first, and then the left eye. Getting the suction cup on my right eye was PAINFUL (they tried twice). The sudden bllidness after they turn on the vacuum was startling too. During the video you can’t actually see the laser, but you can see the film of tiny bubbles created as the laser passes. After this step, they had me sit in a really nice massage chair, eyes closed, for ~15 minutes letting those bubbles pop, thus separating part of my cornea. My vision was foggier than normal after this step.
TIPS: DRY EYE, Second Laser, Post-Surgery I share info that I wish I had known before my surgery, in the hope that it will help you avoid some of the challenges I faced. My original video was too long, so had to break it into 3 parts. My web site: www.opennessworks.com
