PART 1 OF 2 – The long awaited video. I had trouble uploading so here it is. Finally! I had intralase eye surgery which is performed blade-less compared to lasik surgery. The recovery time on this type of surgery is 1 day while lasik’s recovery time is 8 days. This particular type of surgery is frequently used for astronauts and pilots. After my procedure I saw very blurry and experienced a lot of tearing and was very sensitive to the light. All I had to do is close my eyes for 3 hours the same day and when I awoke, everything cleared up and I saw 20/20. Has to be one of the best things I’ve done aside to many others. LASIK: Creating the Corneal Flaps using an Intralase Laser

The first half of my good Lasik surgery experience at Hoopes Vision–creating the flaps in each cornea. Originally this was done with a metal blade, nowadays they do this with a laser. They did the right eye first, and then the left eye. Getting the suction cup on my right eye was PAINFUL (they tried twice). The sudden bllidness after they turn on the vacuum was startling too. During the video you can’t actually see the laser, but you can see the film of tiny bubbles created as the laser passes. After this step, they had me sit in a really nice massage chair, eyes closed, for ~15 minutes letting those bubbles pop, thus separating part of my cornea. My vision was foggier than normal after this step.

Intralase / IntraLASIK

Intralase / IntraLASIK – essentially an ALL LASER Lasik procedure that dispenses altogether with a blade (used in traditional Lasik). Centre for Sight introduced this technology to the UK in 2004 and has had a long head start. The video shows what takes place during the procedure including the surgeon’s view. Advantages: precision, uniform flap thickness/thinness – Centre for Sight apparently like using thin flaps (100 microns or less) as they “provide minimal bio-mechanical change, better maintenance of corneal strength, better vision and less dry”. Interestingly “Thin flap lasik with Intralase” has been termed SBK or “Sub-Bowman’s Keratomileusis” by Stephen Slade and Dan Durrie in the US. LASIK Flap Made with IntraLase Laser

This video shows the LASIK flap being made with an IntraLase laser. The IntraLase laser makes a series of tightly spaced cavitation bubbles rather than using a blade to make the flap. Our newest IntraLase laser makes a flap in about 15 seconds.

Custom Lasik Intralase

This was my custom lasik intralase surgery preformed by Dr. Daivd Schanzlin of TLC Laser Eye Center in La Jolla, California. I was at a -2.75 and -3.0 with 1.0 astigmatism . By the next day I was already seeing 20/20. There was no pain what so ever during the surgery. There was some pain and dryness later that night after the surgery but nothing out of the norm. I am experiencing slightly dry eyes but it has only been 4 days since my surgery. Im so pleased with the outcome. *The voice you hear is not the doctors but my brother’s.
