Cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped tissue covering the front of the eye. It is like the watch glass of a wrist watch. Cornea is a powerful refracting surface and provides about 2/3rd of the eye’s focusing power. Diseases of the cornea, due to injury or infection lead to loss of its transparency, thus reducing the vision.

Dr. Todd Fladen narrates and performs PRK Surface Ablation Laser Vision Correction at The Fladen Eye and Lasik Center, in Canton, Ohio. Steps in this painless procedure: 1. Central cornea is marked with circular marker 2. Cornea Well in placed on the mark 3. 20% Alcohol is dropped into the well 4. After 30 seconds, a micro-sponge is used to adsorb the alcohol in the well. 5. The eye vigorously irrigated with saline 6. The surface epithelium is then wiped away, leaving a relative smooth and uniform underlying surface 7. Laser is then applied centrally to the surface using an Auto-Tracking mechanism to maintain centration of the laser energy delivery. Patient experiences no pain or any discomfort during any time of this procedure. 8. At completion, a contact lens is placed on the surface of the eye, to promote healing and reduce, if not eliminate on post operative discomfort. 9. Once the surface abrasions heals, generally with 3 to 10 days, the vision has rehabitated, so that glasses are no longer necessary for distance. The Fladen Eye and Lasik Center is Stark County Premier Comprehensive Eye Care Center specializing in the correction of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
