Is LASIK eye surgery effect last for a long time or it’s only good for a couple of years?

I went through LASIK treatment 5 years ago, and I have perfect 20/20 vision after the surgery. I was really happy about the result. But lately I start to feel that my vision is getting worse rapidly. And I couldn’t find any information regard the long term effect of LASIK online. I’d really appreciate any information, personal experience or professional suggestion. I want to get as much information before I get back to the clinic where I get my surgery for a check up.

Thank you!

My Daughter Inlaw allso had Lasic eye Surgey done about six years ago. Her vision i still 20/20 and has never uttered one complainat but i’m sure if she felt her vision was decreaseing she would go right back to the clinic.
My Daughter inlaw is allso an RN and keeps up to date regaurding any long term effects of Lasik surgery.
I would recomend you getting checked out at the clinic and keep your vision up to the 20/20 level.
God luck

Lasik is a wonderful thing- however age is something you cannot beat. Depending on how old you are now does have some bearing on your situation, but other factors could be in play also. If you are say approaching 40- your near accomodation could be the problem, meaning you need reading glasses. A trip to your Eye doctor would be a good idea for a more detailed answer-

I had Lasik surgery about two weeks ago. Went from not reading the E on the wall (-6.00) to seeing 20/20 now. It is suppose to be long term but like the other person said you can’t fight old age. I am only 28 so I hopefully have some time. Had glasses since I was 5 years old. Best decision I ever made was to have this surgery.

    Two separate issues:
The Lasik resets the eye’s refraction to zero (ideally) but it does nothing to prevent any further change in refraction so, over time, the refractive error can build up again.

That’s why a history of a stable Rx is so important in deciding whether someone is a good candidate.

There’s also the possibility that the cornea itself may change over time directly as a *result* of the laser surgery. This does seem to apply to a very small minority of people, and thinner-than-average corneas may be a factor. But though this may be more troublesome for the individuals concerned, the first cause is going to be the more common by far.
