How exact is vision correction after LASIK compared to glasses/contacts?

I have just began thinking about the possibility of LASIK. I’ve been told I need “moderate” vision correction. My eyes are identical with spheres of 3.50 and cylinders of -1.00. How does LASIK compare to glasses/contact for getting the best eyesight? Is it a lot more precise? A lot less? About the same? I’m interested in any info at all. Thank you!

Always get a second opinion before resorting to LASIK. It has many side effects including leaving scars in your eyes. This might cause problems later in your life.

The goal of LASIK in terms of quality of vision is to get your vision corrected to 20/20 without the need for glasses/contacts. It is sometimes possible to correct for various aberrations of the eye (structural issues that cause distortion in images) during surgery and they can sometimes correct vision to better than 20/20 (20/15 but no better than 20/10) but this isn’t necessarily ‘typical.’

In basic terms, if your glasses/contacts have you corrected to 20/20 (very likely is the case) then your vision will be no better than this after LASIK. You just won’t have to wear glasses/contacts….that is the only difference. And as noted in a previous post, there are side effects to LASIK like halos, etc that the patient may not have experienced before the surgery with their glasses/contacts. It is also possible for your vision to change slightly after the surgery (not due to the surgery, but simply due to changes in your body due to aging, etc) and then you will still need to wear glasses/contacts to correct your vision to 20/20.

this depends on your vision acuity with glasses, in general lasik just lets you to remove your glasses but in most cases lasik enhances the VA better than glasses. in your case(-3.5 DS / -1 DC) lasik will be very benefit for you but you should doing the operation by a good lasik machin like (allegreto, nidek) and the best and modern method to cut the flap is by using (femto laser) this is safer than blades and giving you a clear vision post op.

I have two friends who have had LASIK surgery and they tell me they now have perfect vision.

However, you should consult professionals. I know someone older who had LASIK surgery who did not like the end results.

LASIK ruined my life. I had an operation on “Impact Laser” in Mexico City in September 2008, now suffer from dry eye syndrome, eye pain, I can not read a book, use the PC is a martyr and suffer horrible symptoms dramatically.

I lost my college because of this.
I tried to sue the clinic but take refuge with a blade that made me sign before surgery, with eyes closed.
My greatest dream is that there is a cure and reading a book.
