I have a few small questions about Lasik laser eye surgery?

These are my questions:
~How long does the surgery range to and from?
~What is the average cost?
~What are some other options?
~Does the patient remain awake or asleep during the operation?
~Is it worth it?

i work at a Lasik eye surgery place with one of the most respected OD doctors in my area, good thing i came across your question.

1.) the surgery takes about an hour, it doesnt take that long.
2.) where i work its about $2,000 per eye.
3.) glasses and/or contacts
4.) awake, they need your eyes to be open, duh. but you can ask to be put to sleep, haha.
5.) i think it is. ironically, i wear glasses, and in the future i wll for sure get Lasik eye surgery. all of the patients are happy that they got it.

good luck.

Improve Your Vision Successfully With Lasik Surgery

Laser in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is a successful surgical treatment that corrects vision in people who suffer from vision defects. This surgical procedure reshapes the cornea or the clear front part of the eye, enabling the light that travels through it to correctly focus on to the retina at the back of the eye.

Preparing For Lasik Eye Surgery

Before undergoing LASIK surgery, your medical history is assessed. This is followed by eye tests that may include measuring thickness of cornea, refraction and pupil dilation. You get briefed on what to expect from the surgery after which an appointment is fixed. Certain precautions have to be taken to prepare for surgery. If you wear contact lenses, then you are advised not to wear them from a specific time before the surgery. Certain medication are prescribed that must be taken before surgery.

What Lasik Surgery Involves

The doctor cuts a thin flap in the cornea with a microkeratome. After peeling back the cornea, the corneal tissue under it is reshaped with an excimer laser. After this, the corneal flap is placed back in position. Local anesthesia is given and the entire procedure takes about ten minutes.

After the surgery, the healing is quick and patients experience better vision almost from the next day. The doctor usually prescribes eye drops to protect the eye from infection and to keep it moist. The doctor also gives you a schedule for follow up.

There are several benefits of LASIK eye surgery. Some of them are:

·        It is successful in a majority of patients, restoring their normal vision quickly, within twenty four hours

·        It is painless

·        Recovery after surgery is fast. No stitches or bandages are needed

·        Eliminates the need for corrective eyewear

·        Even after years of LASIK eye surgery, corrective adjustments can be made

  • LASIK also has a few shortcomings:
  • Corneal changes cannot be reversed after LASIK
  • Any correction must be through LASIK eye surgery only
  • The procedure is expensive
  • There are chances of permanent vision damage depending on the surgeon performing the operation
  • You could lose your best vision after a year of surgery

In spite of the above, the success rate is far greater than the risk factor.  There is the likelihood of side effects like a little discomfort and dry eyes initially after the surgery. Some people tend to see halos around the images and also have problems driving in the dark.

The US FDA, however, approves the procedure and endorses that there are no long-term side effects of LASIK eye surgery. The success rate is quite high even though it depends on a few factors like the type of instruments and lasers used by your surgeon, the experience level of the surgeon treating you, and the type of LASIK surgery. Rather than basing the decision to go in for LASIK surgery on cost factor alone, it is important to compare different eye care clinics. Since LASIK surgery is permanent and can influence your vision for life, it makes sense to look at all the options available.

Where is the best place for LASIK eye laser surgery in South Korea?

I’m interested in getting corrective eye laser surgery (LASIK) and I want to know where the number one place for that is. I’ll pay top dollar for guaranteed results (or as close to it as possible).

Lasik eye surgery is rather safe if only you are a suitable candidate. As with any surgery, there is a definite risk incurred. You must be screened for suitability and examined by the doctor personally. (Not the sales team to mislead you to get expensive package deal).

If you are a suitable candidate, the risk maybe :-
1.)Dry eyes (temporary)
2.)Regression/ enhancement
3.)Infection (3-5/20,000 for the next 3 weeks)
4.)Flap/ complication of treatment (rare)
5.)Miscellaneous

A suitable candidate for Lasik surgery, it depends on:-
1.)Your corneal thickness
2.)Your power
3.)Your age
4.)A centre with a doctor who is examining your eyes personally
5.)Torough explanation to suit your lifestyle

Always insist on seeing the doctor performing the surgery for you. It is the due deligent of him or her to present the risk and benefit to you in detail personally.

What should I do if I am interested in lasik laser eye surgery?

where should i start, and how should i go about it
I know someone who is practically blind without his glasses, and is now saving up for lasik. We live in Toronto. Thanks to everyone for their answers.

Before you make a decision, get as much information as you possibly can. This is very important. First, get a pre-surgery information session and consultation to check whether you are a candidate for lasik laser eye surgery or not. Make sure you know about any risks involved, and the chances of risks in your case. The actual procedure is probably about 20 minutes, but there is a healing process afterwards. Also, stop wearing contacts a few days before your check-up because they sometimes tend to change the shape of your eyes very slightly and the surgeons need proper measurements for the procedure.

Does LASIK or LASER eye surgery really make your eyes have better vision?

I’m not sure if it is Lasik or Laser, but anyway, does it really improve your eye vision? If not, what does it do?

um of course it improves your vision. if it didn’t people wouldn’t be spending a lot of money to have it done.
my sister used to need glasses/contacts. she had lasik 3 years ago now and her vision is 20/20 (perfect vision) and no need for glasses any more.

Can a doctor detect Wavefront LASIK Laser Eye Surgery after having the procedure done a year ago?

Because I want to join the army as a pilot, and I want to have the procedure done then apply after a year.

It is essential to inform your Dr. of all procedures/surgeries you have had. Especially if you are trying to have another surgery or are trying to get a problem diagnosed.Your desire to have something "fixed" may not be in line with what is medically appropriate for you and by not sharing important information you may set yourself up for problems. Be honest with your dr.

What is The Difference Between Lasik and Laser Eye Surgery?

I have pretty bad vision, I use some pretty thick glasses, my question is… What is the differences between Lasik Surgery and Laser Eye surgery? and which would be the best for me?

There are several different types of laser eye surgery. And there are different types of lasers that can be used in eye surgery depending upon what the surgeon is wanting to accomplish. For instance, the surgeon could use a yag laser to treat secondary cataracts. Or the surgeon could use an argon laser to perform iridotomies or possibly to treat leaking blood vessels in the retina. Or the surgeon could use an excimer laser to correct vision disorders such as near sightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. This is the laser you are probably referring to. Now, excimer laser surgery is a broad term that can include PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) or LASIK (laser insitu keratomeleusis). PRK is used on the surface of the cornea to correct prescription errors whereas LASIK is used, after creating a flap, on the internal structures of the cornea. Both are capable of precisely correcting prescription errors. To decide which is best for you, you need to see an eye doctor who is experienced in this field. He or she will be able to recommend which procedure would be best.

How accurate LASIK or Laser Eye Surgery is?, and what is the difference between LASIK and Laser Eye Surgery?

I am planning to do a LASIK or Laser Eye Surgery, does it has any disadvantages doing it? and what is the difference between Laser and LASIK, which is better and why, I am hesitating whether to do it or not, also I don’t know which one should I choose LASIK or Laser.

P.S. My vision is not so bad, it is something like 1.7 – 2 degrees deviation, am just sick wearing glasses. :)

Thanks in advance.

LASIK stands for LASER assisited In-Situ Keratomileusis, so there is a Laser being used on your eye during the procedure. The doctors will make a "flap" of your cornea using a microkeratome and then apply the Laser to your cornea shaping it and correcting your vision. They carefully replace the flap and you’re done. It is important after LASIK that you do not rub your eyes for a couple of weeks to let the flaps heal back to normal. Your doctor will provide shields for you to wear at night so you don’t rub your eyes while you’re sleeping.

The only really negatives that occur regularly are:
A) Dry eyes, if you have dry eyes prior to the procedure they will be more dry after the procedure.
B) Your correction isn’t totally corrected – you may need an enhancement to get your vision perfect.
C) If you have Presbyopia (the need for reading glasses) and you have both eyes corrected for distance, you will still need reading glasses, you can talk to your doctor about possible Monovision or Mini-Monovision if you’re just about 40 or over 40.

Laser Eye Surgery is for people with complications in their retinas, or Glaucoma. A Laser is applied either cauterizing blood vessels in a wide range of spots and sizes for retina. It can be used to open angles in narrow angle Glaucoma. It can also be applied to patients that have cloudiness after cataract surgery to remove cloudiness.
