post lasik procedure?

Had lasik procedure yesterday and it is wonderful. Just curious though. My right eye seems to be more clearer than my left eye. Is it true that your vision will change over the next few days? I have a followup appt next week and wondering if I need to ask my Dr. about an enhancement on the left eye or would it be to soon. Any suggestions??

It will be months before you will be able to know if you need an enhancement. When you go in for your one week follow up, the doctor will be able to tell you if the blur is caused by some uncorrected refractive error or something else. Use your prescription drops as directed and lubricating drops whenever you notice your vision is blurry.

Whats the maxium time for the perfect vision to come up? Do i have to go for enhancement surgery.I asked doctor do I have to go for surgery again. He said that you cannot go for it for atleast one year? What should I do as my one eye vision is really bad.PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ HELP?
I have gone to our optician to see that there is any number. My one eye is showing 0.25 number. I am not sure whether it is left or right. Why is it showing the number? Is it normal?Plz guide me on this also.
10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER

Well, it looks like you can’t do anything until it can be retouched again with the laser. There is no other way to fix the problem until it is all healed.

I don’t think moving your head made the difference. The modern lasers have a tracking device that follow any movement of the eye or head.

You are just an example of what can go wrong with laser surgery sometimes. It isn’t perfect, and there is always a risk.

How often do you need a touch up or enhancement after laser eye surgery?

I’m getting Lasik eye surgery in a week and I know that sometimes your vision cn slip back to where it had been previously, resulting in the need for a touch up surgery. I’m just wondering how often this happens. Any help would be much appreciated.

The answer for this question is quite variable actually. The major factor for the need for enhancements is undercorrection at the first surgery.

I had PRK 7 weeks ago and asked my surgeon what his "enhancement rate" was. His was about 10%. I asked for reasons and he stated the most common reason he saw was undercorrection. He said that a few cases of his were because the vision had not stabilized at the time the surgery was performed (too young of patients), so he raised his preferred minimum age to 21 and found he had fewer instances of this happening. I asked him then how long between the original surgery and the enhancements, and he told me that it really varied a lot…anywhere from within the first year to 10 years down the road.

I then asked him what my chances were for an enhancement…the answer I got was no chance…my corneas were pretty thin and there’s just no room for a safe enhancement in the future…which is fine by me.

So, the answer to your question really truly lies in your corneal thickness preop, how much cornea is removed to correct your vision, your postop corneal thickness, and how accurate your preop measurements are for your visual acuity.

You will probably find you will need reading glasses once you hit your 40s…just about everyone does, LASIK or not.

Good luck! You’ll be happy with your results…but ask your surgeon…even call him prior to your op date…and ask him about his personal enhancement rates and the length of time from the original surgery…and if you would be eligible for any enhancements in the future…if not…do not let them ’sell’ you a lifetime enhancement plan that you will never be able to use.

im getting lasik done in a day and a half. has anyone gotten it done before?

im actually getting PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) its safer than lasik. they dont cut your eye. they say that the discomfort will last a little longer than lasik and i won’t see as clearly right after the procedure. Have you gotten it done before, or know of someone. tell me your experiences and try and help me get over my nervousness, please. Oh, and how much did you, or someone else pay to get the surgery done? I have bad astigmatism so mine was more than the original price plus i got the lifetime of enhancements and the punctual plugs for the eyedrops all included in $1499 an eye. That’s with the custom advanced procedure too, not the traditional lasik. so i figure it’s a good price. well please let me know. i appreciate it.

my friend got it done and he said he had no problems and it wasn’t nearly as bad as he thought it was going to be.

i hope a Doctor will answer this, or anyone whit similar experience.?

i have very recently gone for lasik enhancement. 2 days later a small but burning sensation appeared on my cheek bone. how could this be? laser gone wrong.

maybe someone put out a CIGARETTE there while you were sleeping
just kidding sounds like an odd side effect I would call the doctor and report it.
Shouldn’t let the shower hit your face too hard for the first bit of time.

The Cost Implications Of LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is generally considered to be more expensive than other more conventional surgical procedures. This can in part be attributed to the use of high-tech equipment such as lasers.

Having said that, I think it is worthwhile to mention that the cost of LASIK continues to come down. This is in part due to improvements being made to the overall process, such as the use of more efficient and cheaper lasers.

According to the FDA, the average cost of LASIK eye surgery was in the region of $1,344 in 2005. This is a significant reduction from the original numbers listed in 2002 of nearly $1,600.

However, be as it may, when deciding on the type of LASIK eye surgery or surgeon, price should never be the overriding factor. Remember you’re not buying shoes, you’re taking a risk! So why not take the best calculated risk by going to someone who has built up a good reputation?

Here are a few things that may help you understand why the costs of LASIK laser surgery are high.

• The fee of leasing the building where the surgery is located.

• The leasing or purchase of the laser as well as maintenance of the blades or lasers can increase LASIK cost. Surgeons may also be upgrading to newer and more efficient lasers.

• There may be additional, per eye fees to be paid to the developer or manufacturer of the laser, if the machine is leased.

• You may need special gowns, masks, gloves, medications, or surgical solutions to keep the operating room sterile and safe.

• There may be advertising and insurance for the office.

When you are considering different LASIK surgery options it may be a good idea to ask your surgeon the following:

• What is and what isn’t included in the cost of the LASIK eye surgery?

• What if complications occur or if enhancements are needed. Will I be charged and if so, how much?

• What about the cost of LASIK medications such as anti-inflammatory or painkillers?

• Will I need temporary contact lenses after LASIK? Are they included in the cost or will they be paid for

separately?

• What about follow-up visits after LASIK? What are the costs if they are not included in the fee for the surgery?

Don’t forget to contact your insurance company to determine if they cover the cost of LASIK laser surgery. Some insurance companies don’t cover the cost of LASIK because they see it as a cosmetic enhancement.

If financing is not a problem you should strongly consider using a LASIK surgeon who best fits your needs and addresses your concerns.

For those who already had successful LASIK procedures, the cost of LASIK laser eye surgery is a small price to pay compared to the joy offered by their newly improved vision.

Will blurred vision (as a side-effect of Cymbalta) go away eventually?

Just started taking Cymbalta, 20mg twice a day, and have noticed that the vision in my right eye is not clear. Not blurry really, but as if my vision got weaker.

I had Lasik surgery 4 months ago, so I am sensitive to vision changes. I am due for an Lasik "enhancement" on my left eye due to an overcorrection, and now my right eye is weaker. I’m not sure but I am guessing it’s the Cymbalta.

Lots of side effects of antidepressants go away after you’ve taken it for a while – my question is: Will this side effect (blurred vision) go away also?
Just to clarify – after the Lasik, my left eye was overcorrected – this is not uncommon after Lasik surgery, especially with my left eye being so weak to begin with. Since I am now basically far-sighted in my left eye, the vision change I have noticed with the cymbalta could be on both sides – it’s just more noticeable on the right eye because my right eye was 20/20 after the Lasik. Hope that makes sense.
Also, please note that in the full prescribing info for Cymbalta, "blurred vision" is noted in roughly 4% of the test patients. While this seems small, it’s noted as "frequent" in the side effects affecting the eyes from the clinical trials.

I do not have a lot of experience prescribing Cymbalta but I do have about 34 years of medical experience and I would say that although the Cymbalta website does not mention blurred vision as a serious side effect they do mention "Dry mouth" as a side effect and "Narrow angle Glucoma" as a counter-indication. Many neuropsychiatric meds have a nature similar to atropine which dialates the pupils of the eye and therefore can cause some blurred vision. However that would be bilateral or both sided and would also do that to your other eye as well. The fact that it has only affected one eye leaves a lot to be considered. Your vision is frequently determined by several aspects of your eye’s anatomy. one of these is the "shape of your eye ball. But again this would usually be expected to be a bilateral effect. I would strongly suggest you see your eye doctor as soon as possible. I do not think the Cymbalta prescribing MD will know to much more about the side effects of that med either. The Lasik surgery Guy is just into it for the money I would suspect, and will not be much help either. I am already worried about the "over correction" and the "weaker" vision of the Right eye may be due to more then just the medicine. I would suggest that you see a real a real opthamologist (not an optomatrist – he is only an eyeglass pusher with years less training in real eye disease diagnosis and treatment.) The Emergency Room might be the quickest way to get to see an opthomologist if you can not get a quick appointment by just calling one if you do not already have one. Whatever happens, good luck with this, as it is so hard to get good care these days when the situation is a bit out of the ordinary. Our eyes govern more then 70% of what we do as Human Beings so it is not usually good sense to wait when it comes to the eyes. I must admit that usually most of what happens with the eyes is not truly an emergency, but when it is, it is nothing to fool around with.

I had lasik eye surgery in 2001. I also have presbyopia. Can I get an enhancement that corrects the presbyopia?

Nope. First off, no such thing exists. Secondly, that’s actually one of the concerns surgeons have before doing surgery, and if you read the fine print of your waivers and whatever, it’s quite likely that the problem of presbyopia is specifically addressed.
As far as other surgeries go, there’s no scientifically proven way to get rid of presbyopia, despite what some people try to sell you on. You’re stuck with glasses, contacts, or forever struggling to read the menu in restaurants :P
Actually, there is one option — monovision. Basically, you correct one eye for distance (which is what your original procedure did) and the other for near vision (i.e. make/leave it a bit nearsighted). You’d be required to try it in contact lenses first, and I doubt the LASIK version would be free for you, but it might be worth discussing it with your optometrist or ophthalmologist. Lots of people have trouble getting used to monovision, but there are some who absolutely love it.
